Hi Investor,
When people hear “home staging” they immediately think: Bringing in fancy furniture and other fixtures.
Although that may be partly true, the real “unseen” key behind ‘home staging’ is DE-PERSONALIZING your home. Some people might not believe all those who say that before you put your house on the market, you should strip it of your personality.
That advice is for people who have no taste, no style. They haven’t seen MY home - or yours. Right?
Who wouldn’t appreciate the family photos, book collections, and mementos of our travels?
When Lisa LaPorta, co-host of HGTV’s “Designed to Sell,” finally convinced some home sellers otherwise, the news felt like a body blow to some.
“Home buyers don’t want to know you better,” she said.
“Depersonalizing a home lets buyers imagine themselves in it.”
In other words, unless you’re Elvis and the place is Graceland, no one gives a hoot about your lifestyle, or the framed photos of you looking possessed with your electric guitar.
Get over it. They just don’t.
Here’s the brutal truth: People looking to buy your home don’t care who you are, what sports your kids play, how you looked on your wedding day or where you went to college.
Take advice from one veteran home seller: When her house is for sale, her family knows the drill: “We never leave used towels in bathrooms, newspapers on the table or laundry on the dryer,” she said.
“We thin out closets, take all books off the nightstands and pack away anything personal.”
